Health monitoring from home with Withings “BeamO”

In the rapidly evolving world of health technology, the importance of home health monitoring solutions is growing. With its “BeamO”, the French company Withings has introduced an innovative device that could fundamentally change the way we monitor our health at home. The AI-powered device was first presented at CES 2024 and is expected to be launched in the near future.

What is BeamO?

BeamO is a compact device designed for both private and telemedicine use. The data collected is automatically forwarded to a smartphone and managed by the Withings app. In the app, users can keep their own health records, manage multiple users or share their data with doctors.

The 4-in-1 device, referred to as Multiskop or Vitalmonitor, is designed for ease of use and is said to focus on the following areas;

1.        Temperature: BeamO can measure body temperature and detect fever.

2.        Cardiovascular check: BeamO assesses the cardiovascular system by recording the electrical activity of the heart with a medical electrocardiogram and calculating the heart rate with a digital stethoscope.

3.        Respiratory health: BeamO can analyze part of the respiratory system by measuring oxygen saturation and calculating the lungs with a digital stethoscope.

4.        Telehealth: BeamO allows doctors to access their patients' health data in real time, regardless of location.

BeamO comes with an integrated digital stethoscope, a medical-grade ECG and an oximeter for measuring blood oxygen levels. To take each reading, simply hold the device against the appropriate part of the body.

One of BeamO's most unique features seems to be its integration with telemedicine. This addresses a common problem that medical professionals face: conducting routine examinations remotely. With BeamO, patients can now share real-time data, such as ECG results or lung sound recordings, with their doctors without leaving their homes. What's more, for telemedical use with patients, audio streaming during examinations enables the doctor to guide the positioning of the device and thus focus on specific areas.

Looking to the future

BeamO is set to launch in the near future and promises to make health monitoring more advanced and accessible. With the growing trend towards telemedicine, BeamO could help people take control of their health and enable doctors to provide more comprehensive care remotely.
